His Way Recovery Center
History and Mission of His Way Drug and Alcohol Recovery Center:
His Way, Inc. is a Christ-centered, six-month recovery program in Huntsville, Alabama that reclaims men from a life of drug and alcohol addiction. His Way seeks to take lives that are broken and give back hope. His Way embraces the basic principles of proven recovery methods, but relies on the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
At His Way, we endeavor to reclaim men from a life of addiction, and restore them to Christian service in our community. Our Mission is to reclaim men from a life of addiction, establish them in spiritual sobriety in Christ, and restore them to productive, Christ-like service in society.
With alcoholism and drug addiction growing to epidemic proportions in America, God has placed a vision on the hearts of two men in Huntsville, Alabama to provide a Christ-centered solution to this problem.
After completing a Christian based recovery program himself, Doug Stogner wanted to begin something like he had experienced in his home town of Huntsville. In March of 2007, he with a few friends began to create what has come to be known as His Way. His Way is a Christ-centered residential recovery facility for men.
With a grand vision, but limited resources; God brought Doug in contact with Clyde Jones, who with a similar vision, had recently acquired a beautiful three acre residential facility in northeast Huntsville. Clyde offered the thirteen bedroom, two story residence to Doug to house His Way’s ministry. And so in June of 2007, His Way opened its doors to the community and invited men passionate for recovery to come discover Jesus’ way to complete wholeness.
Christ’s ministry within His Way:
Without the sacrifice, love, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the purpose of His Way would not exist. The core and foundation of living a life of sobriety and one that is full of joy and abounds in grace lies with the hope and truth of Christ’s life. At His Way, the residents of our program are introduced to God’s love and acceptance through the lives and hearts of the staff members, through daily lead Bible classes, Bible tests, and participating in the church communities in the Huntsville area. Learning to live a life of sobriety is a major focal point in recovery centers, but at His Way, we recognize the desperate of redemption. It is such a joy to see lives rebuilt, families restored, and hope reborn, but the greatest celebrations occurs when one of His children return to our Father’s loving arms.
The Needs of His Way:
Since the beginning of His Way ministry in 2007, differing needs have come up over the past 8 years. From simple items such as toiletries, to finding jobs for our residents, to knowing who we should call with plumbing issues, His Way has faced many needs.
At this time, His Way is looking for involvement from local churches, community groups, and families to participate in embracing the 32 residents we have on property. We are in need of leaders who are willing to teach Bible classes and recovery classes, individuals who are willing to drive our residents to and from work, church, court hearings, and doctor’s appointments, and men to serve as mentors and role-models.
His Way also operates two thrift stores, The Saving Way, where volunteers are always needed to sort through donations, organize the sales floor, stock new merchandise and to be a warm and inviting spirit to our customers. Volunteering your time at our thrift stores is a great way to include your families, youth groups, community outreach programs and school clubs.
