Soul Food: “Not Just Another Ring” by D’kresah Adams
Not Just Another Ring
By: D’kresha Adams
“All of us who look forward to HIS coming stay ready, with the glistening purity of Jesus’ life as a model for our own.”
Our society has made what should be a symbol of glorification to God just another “societal tradition.” The purity ring’s origin was to be a public/personal symbol to abstain from sexual immorality and immorality period.
I didn’t realize how cliche the ring had become until I got one. I thought that this ring would be cute and make everyone look at me as “The good girl.” The ring is NOT a magic piece of gold and /or silver that will magically take away your desires, but a symbol of you glorifying God in this area of a life He’s given you. Song of Solomon says “We belong to OUR lover and their desire is for us.” Beautiful woman, God has that part reserved to share with whom’s side you were created from.
“Like a lily among the thorns you are my darling.”
A purity ring is a reminder that our bodies aren’t our own to do with what we please, being “pure” isn’t limited to sex. Purity is what we allow to make a home in our hearts and minds.
The ring should be a reflection of the righteousness of Christ that has been imparted to you by putting your faith in HIM.
FAITH IN ACTION:
Make your lifestyle a display of pureness in mind, body and spirit.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS:
Did you get the “ring” but not the meaning?
How are you displaying purity in your lifestyle?
Treasure Hunt:
James 1:27 “ Keep yourselves unstained by the world.”
SOS 7:10 “ I belong to my lover and his desire is for me.”
Proverbs 3:13-18 “She is a tree of life to those who embrace her, those who lay hold of her will be blessed.”
PRAYER:
Dear God, I pray that these beautiful women and girls in this world see themselves as more precious that rubies and have no desire to give in to societies standards of what a woman should do and be and know that are ALREADY absolutely complete IN you.
