People’s Corner: Jay Wilson
Tell us about yourself.
I am the husband of my best friend and the sweetest God-girl I know, Katie. I am the father to three smart, beautiful and wonderful kids, Jake, Virginia and Fletcher. I am a sinner that has been eternally blessed by Jesus’ sacrifice and God’s grace. I am only one person in a crazy world who is trying to learn more every day about how to make a difference.
What motivates you to do what you do?
I have always had good work ethic and felt it was my duty to provide for my family. I enjoy many parts of my job, but admit that I can struggle with the balance between work and everything else. My motivation is to see others (especially my family and friends) growing and learning. More and more I aspire to see their growth, not just in life, but also in their walk of faith.
What is one verse that has been significant in your life and why?
Psalm 118:24. “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it”. While there are hundreds of verses that have been (and I know will continue to be) significant in my life, this Psalm was one of my Father-in-law’s favorites and I know that it meant a lot to my wife because of that. It lifts my spirit, no matter what the circumstance, and reminds me that the sun will rise and we should be thankful every day.
What is God speaking to you right now?
We have been fortunate to be part of The Church of the Highlands since their campus in Huntsville opened in 2014. Pastor Chris has a way of consistently connecting the dots for me that I have rarely experienced before. I have gotten to know God and am connecting with Him in a more personal way more frequently. I see and feel God working in me now to help me discover and understand my true purpose, which I am sure, will lead to me making a bigger difference for those I interact with. I have been reading a lot about God’s work in other people’s lives and then finding proof points of their experiences throughout the Bible. I share my takeaway daily with my family (through group text of course!). I pray that my mind and heart remain fixed on God and that I make a difference in other people’s lives in some small way every day.
What is one of your most memorable God moments in this city?
Several years ago, some God loving friends challenged me to take a leap of faith and go on a Walk to Emmaus weekend. My busy work schedule helped make sure I did not anticipate the weekend too much, but the mountaintop experience was unmatched so far in my life. Galatians 5:22-23 say “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” These are also among my favorite verses, but they come to mind when I think of my Emmaus experience. I have never felt such love from others and that experience instilled a confidence in me, showed me that all of us are imperfect, and that anything is possible with God!
