Prayers for Our City: April 20, 2020 – Media
“Then Caleb … said, ‘We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.’ But the men who had gone up with him said, ‘We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.’ And they spread among the Israelites a bad report …” Numbers 13:30-31 NIV
Those who report the news can change the destiny of an entire city or nation with one fear-producing report. We cry out to You, Father, on behalf of our Media. Grant favor and protection to those on the Media Mountain that have the spirit of Caleb; who can report the facts and call people to courage and inspired action. Cause the Body of Christ to depend on You, Holy Spirit, to filter out fear and keep our Kingdom perspective when hearing reports that imply we are small and helpless.
We are small in comparison to the problems and issues of our day, but we don’t face the battles alone. God, You are with us – that makes us big enough to face and obey and accomplish whatever You say. We don’t want to have more faith in (or fear of) the enemy that we do in You, our Mighty God. Remind us, Holy Spirit, to respond to news reports with faith and courage as we pray concerning the fearful giants in the land and seek You for guidance in conquering them.
“They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the LORD. Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear; in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.” Psalm 112:7-8 NIV
Lord, we cry out to You to deliver (or remove) those working for local, state, and national Media outlets that use their influence to incite fear, suspicion, or false reports. We pray Psalm 141:3-4, “Set a guard over [Media’s] mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of [their] lips. Do not let [their hearts] be drawn to what is evil so that [they] take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers.”
We bless those throughout the industries of broadcast and print media of Huntsville/Madison County with the courage and confidence of Caleb! Strengthen them in Godly wisdom so that truth is told and attitudes of fear and cynicism will be changed. Protect them as they move about in the public during this pandemic.
We appreciate so much, Lord, that our local news reporters and anchors are not hesitant to report on the testimony of Believers who give You thanks and credit for helping them. We pray that Biblical values and ethics will find their way into all aspects of media. May media and information technology be a tool in Your Hands to change the culture around us for Your honor and glory!
