Prayers for Our City: August 12, 2019 – Government
“For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;” I Corinthians 12:8 NASB
Today as we focus on the Government Mountain, Father, we ask you to bless the mayors of this region (Madison, Morgan and Limestone Counties) and other government leaders who recently signed a “friendship pact” declaring their desire to work together as a region “to create new opportunities, sustain current initiatives and face challenges with shared solutions and continue to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for our region, state and nation.”
Praise You, Lord, for this spirit of cooperation among our government leaders which has been fostered through the Launch 2035 Initiative, a regional partnership that is rethinking and imagining our region’s economy 20 years from now. Guide this group of business leaders who are looking ahead and going after economic opportunities that will benefit the entire region.
Holy Spirit, would You grant them the gifts of 1Corinthians 12:8 – words of wisdom and words of knowledge as all these leaders work in cooperation to oversee the affairs of our communities and this region. Thank You for Your hand of grace and guidance upon them, Father.
[Signers of the collaboration and cooperation pledge were: Mayor Tommy Battle of Huntsville, Mayor Tab Bowling of Decatur, Madison County Commission Chair Dale Strong, Limestone County Commission Chair Collin Daly, Mayor Ronnie Marks of Athens, Mayor Paul Finley of Madison, Mayor Mary Caudle of Triana, and Mooresville Councilwoman Leann Barr. For more information see this AL.com article. ]
We ask on these leaders’ behalf for the blessing of good health physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. (3 John 1:2) We ask that You provide protection and strengthening of their marriages and family relationships. Even as they work tirelessly for economic soundness in our communities, may You bless their personal finances. Help them balance their time and priorities, not forgetting to see to their personal health. And most importantly, may they grow and prosper spiritually. (2 Peter 3:18)
We thank You, Lord, that as we are faithful to pray for our mayors and all those in authority over us, Your Word says the result will be that we can live peaceful and quiet lives. And Lord, we also want to pray that our Pastors and Church leaders would see the wisdom and need to work together in friendship to see more intentional, long-range planning for the great harvest!!
“I urge…that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for…all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” I Timothy 2:1-2 NIV
