Prayers for Our City: December 30, 2019 – Light and Hope
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:1-5 NASB
Lord Jesus, we praise You for being incomprehensible Light. Light was the very first thing created. You revealed Yourself first as Creator of all things then commanded Light to shine in the darkness. We praise You that darkness has never been able to hold back or overcome or defeat Light! The tiniest spark of light, like a lit match, and darkness is undone.
As we consider spiritual Light and spiritual darkness over Huntsville/Madison County, we know the enemy continues to try to shut Light our. It is not possible! Jesus, you are the source of all Light. You are the revelation of God and the illumination of the mysteries of His Word. You are hope to a dark and dying world.
We also realize that no darkness can comprehend You and Your ways. Your Word makes it clear that the ways of darkness will always collide with Your ways. We praise You that You open blind eyes, both naturally and spiritually. Those who choose to remain in spiritual blindness will never understand You. We observe this throughout our culture. Light encountering darkness will always be dramatic. It can be chaotic, Lord, and unsettling. Help us remember and stand on the truth that Light will always overcome the darkness!
As we continue our commitment to pray over our families, our churches, our schools, our businesses, our government, our media, and our arts & entertainment; we cry out to You, Lord Jesus, to penetrate the darkness and set the captives free! Shine through our lives, Lord, in the spheres of influence (each mountain) in which we interact.
As we move toward 2020, we celebrate You, Lord Jesus, Light of the world, who dispels all darkness!
