Prayers for Our City January 24, 2017
“The goal is for all of them to become one heart and mine–just as you, Father, are in Me and I in You, so they might be one heart and mind with us. Then the world might believe that You, in fact, sent Me. The same glory You gave Me, I gave them, so they will be as unified and together as we are — I in them and You in Me. Then they will be mature in this oneness, and give the godless world evidence that You’ve sent Me and loved them in the same way You’ve loved Me.” John 17:21-23 MSG)
Father God, we pray this John 17 prayer over Your Body, the Church that is here in Huntsville/Madison County. Make Your desire ours, so that we will obediently submit in loving action to fulfill this prayer.
Thank You for the foundation laid by pastors and churches in the past who prayed and worked for unity. And for the pastors and each church today, we pray for a humble working relationship where we are able to listen to one another and act together on behalf of what’s best for our community. Increase our vision and give us specific strategies for this hour to bring our pastors and our churches together, uniting our resources in an all-out effort to spread the Good News of Your love.
Only You, Father, can work this miracle and we ask for it in faith. Enable us to live in unity – to be a unified Church. Unity is the greatest power we have over darkness. Unity is the power that allows the unsaved to believe who You are, Jesus, and that You love them. And unity is the most difficult command You gave to the Church, because it wars against the evil aspect of our sin nature – independence.
Oh Father, we do want the same love that You have for Jesus to be in each of us so that we are drawn to each other with a common mission. Give us the grace to repent of our walls of misunderstanding/mistrust, our competition and pride of ownership. We can only imagine what You can and will do, Jesus, with a unified Church that is in love with You and each other. May satan’s accusations be thwarted and the lost see the love of Jesus in the Church of Huntsville/Madison County. Thank You, Jesus, that where there is unity, You command a blessing. May we live in that day!
