Prayers for Our City: July 11,2016
“You will cause Your ear to hear, to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
That the man of the earth may oppress no more.” Ps. 10:17-18
“O God, we pray for [those in our city and] all those in our world who are suffering from injustice:
For those who are discriminated against because of their race, color or religion;
For those imprisoned for working for the relief of oppression;
For those who are hounded for speaking the inconvenient truth;
For those tempted to violence as a cry against overwhelming hardship;
For those deprived of reasonable heath and education;
For those suffering from hunger and famine;
For those too weak to help themselves
And who have no one else to help them;
For the unemployed who cry out for work but do not find it.
We pray for anyone of our acquaintance
who is personally affected by injustice.
Forgive us, Lord, if we unwittingly share in the conditions
or in a system that perpetuates injustice.
Show us how we can serve your children
and make Your love practical by washing their feet.”
Mother Teresa
As we cry out to you in prayer, Father, we thank You that Your peace, truth, comfort and righteousness cover Huntsville/Madison County. We pray this for all the cities of our nation. Thank you that our cities are made up of african americans, whites, hispanics, asians – multifaceted cultures. We pray that the Body of Christ will arise and be Your hands, feet and voice to bring racial reconciliation. Brood over our cities, Holy Spirit. Expose what is in darkness so it can be healed. May You move on our clergy to function on the higher realm above the issues in the Spirit realm that can stem the tide and bring healing. Manifest those voices You have approved of in this nation. Give them a platform. Expose and shut down the agitation voices trying to exploit America’s pain at this time to stir up trouble.
According to II Chron. 7:14, start with each of us and put your finger on any area of our lives that is not in line with You. May we turn from anything that is grieving Your heart, so You can heal our cities – our land.
We remember and pray for Huntsville Police Department (Chief Mark McMurray), Madison County Sheriff’s Department (Sheriff Blake Dorning), and Madison Police Department (Major Jim Cooke currently in charge) and ask you to give an unusual poise, calm and presence of mind to all law enforcement officials. Father, enable these law enforcement agencies to rise to the challenges of protecting life, liberty, property and defending the constitutional rights of all people with compassion, fairness, integrity and professionalism. Only You can give them compassion for the people they serve and enable them to respond accordingly with insight into what an individual may be going through.
We bring before You the 21 new police cadets that graduated this past week. Grant them protection and wisdom. May they establish a personal relationship with You and be able to discern Your voice as You guide them in every situation.
Almighty God, we look to You to protect Huntsville/Madison County from any social unrest, terrorism, biological or chemical warfare, and any geo-physical disaster. May our law enforcement officials and city leaders be prepared to face any crisis and deal with any challenge that may manifest.
If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling,
no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; Ps. 91:9-11
