Prayers for Our City: July 18, 2016
These are the things which you should do: speak the truth to one another,
judge with truth and judgment for peace in your gates.” Zechariah 8:16
As we praise You, Lord Jesus, for being the Truth that sets men free, we pray specifically for truth to be an established standard in the Media Mountain of Huntsville/Madison County. Freedom is ultimately a gift from You, Lord, and is therefore dependent upon Your truth. Please restore truth to this nation. Bring a fresh love for truth to those who report the news. “Have I not written… sayings of counsel and knowledge, teaching you to be honest and to speak the truth, so that you bring back truthful reports to those you serve.” Prov. 22:20-21
Father God, we pray for all those who serve us in Huntsville/Madison County as news anchors and reporters presenting news and providing commentary through the Media Mountain. We bless them with the ability to provide stability and confidence in an otherwise uncertain situation. Their positions are high profile and have strong effects since the community looks to them as representatives of truth. May the fear of the Lord be upon them because “this is the beginning of wisdom, and all who follow Your precepts have good understanding.” Ps. 111:10
Grant them discernment and caution as they alert and inform us, Father, enabling our journalists to avoid sensationalism, propaganda, and that which provokes discouragement or fear. “Set a watch over their mouths , O Lord; keep watch over the door of their lips.” Ps. 141:3 However, when a clarion call needs to go forth, especially to warn people of the need to correct attitudes and actions that are causing moral decline, we pray for a spirit of boldness and clarity. “…Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” Ephesians 6:20
