Prayers for Our City: July 2, 2018 – Independence Day
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ
has made us free….” Galatians 5:1 KJV
There is no greater feeling of liberty, Father God, than to experience freedom from sin and death that You provided for each of us through Jesus Christ. Our hearts and our souls are free to praise You. For this, we are so very thankful.
As we celebrate Independence Day, we are reminded, Lord, of all those who have sacrificed for our freedom, following the example of your Son, Jesus Christ. Such a high price was paid for our freedom, both physical and spiritual – the very lives of others. May we never take this for granted.
Father, we ask You to bless those who have served and continue to give their lives for freedom. With favor and provision, meet their needs and watch over their families. We thank You for Your Hand on our nation. In the midst of upheaval, we are beginning to see how You are using the shaking to cause us to “come to our senses” and return to our Father’s house. Thank You for your patient grace as You watch for this prodigal nation to return to our true calling and relationship with You. You are a good, good Father!
Congressional Prayer offered by Chaplain, Reverend Edward G. Latch on Wednesday, July 3, 1974
Eternal God, stir Thou our minds and stimulate our hearts with a high sense of patriotism as we approach the Fourth of July. May all that this day symbolizes renew our faith in freedom, our devotion to democracy, and redouble our efforts to keep a government of the people, by the people, and for the people truly alive in our world.
Grant that we may highly resolve on this great day to dedicate ourselves anew to the task of ushering in an era when good shall live in the hearts of a free people, justice shall be the light to guide their feet, and peace shall be the goal of humankind: to the glory of Thy holy name and the good of our Nation and of all mankind.
Amen.
