Prayers for Our City: May 20, 2019 – Church – Prayer Walking
“Every place where you set your foot will be yours…” Deuteronomy 11:24 NIV
Thank You, Father, for calling Believers here in Huntsville/Madison County to join with thousands around the world who pray as they pass through the streets of their communities in “onsite intercession.” We truly want to fulfill Proverbs 11:11 “Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted..”
Whether it’s walking or in our cars, we invite You to guide us and our words as we pray for the homes, businesses, schools, government offices, media, and churches we pass by. We don’t need to rehearse the problems; You know them better than we do, Lord. Enable us to listen and allow You, Holy Spirit, to help us see with Father’s eyes and pray in accordance with His heart.
Father, may we form the habit of intentional prayer for people and places we pass by as we go about our daily lives. And help us take advantage, as well as make opportunities, to pray with others on a regular basis for our own neighborhood and city.
Here’s a prayer opportunity you may find very enjoyable this summer!
PRAYER WALKERS FOR HUNTSVILLE
You are invited to join with other Christians each Thursday as we walk the downtown Huntsville area and pray for our city.
We will meet at the northeast corner of the courthouse porch at 7 pm each Thursday evening and walk in groups of 2 or 3 for 30-60 minutes. Those who prefer praying from a park bench are welcome too. This event will be each week throughout the summer (May-August). Canceled if raining.
If you’ve never done a prayer walk, come and join with those who have learned to enjoy this prayer tool. Families, prayer groups or Bible study groups might like to pick a Thursday to have this outing together. Thursday evening in Downtown Huntsville is alive with activity. Green Street Market is open from 4-8 pm. Sidewalk musicians and artists are often on the square as well. City Council meetings are going on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays.
This prayer walk is sponsored by the Huntsville/Madison County National Day of Prayer Task Force and 7 Mountain Prayer Initiative. Also supported by Mission Huntsville and One for All Community Collaborative. Contact Connie Oakley at conniejoakley@gmail.com for more information.
