Prayers for Our City: May 4, 2020 – Arts & Entertainment
“And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.” Psalm 90:17 NKJV
Under normal circumstances, last weekend would have been our wonderful Panolpy Festival. Even though this event had to be canceled, Father, show us as a community how to encourage and support the arts at this time while there is limited connection to them. We bless and pray that You continue to call forth and give favor to the artists in Huntsville/Madison County, especially our children. May they use this time at home to explore and learn to develop the talents You have placed in them.
We bless and thank You for the leadership of Arts Huntsville Executive Director Allison Dillon-Jauken and her team as they are so aware that artists, arts organizations, and arts-related businesses across the Huntsville metro region are facing significant financial challenges due to the pandemic. [Here is a list of resources compiled that might assist an artist you know.] Encourage people to bless them with donations, Lord. [Donate to Individual Artist Emergency Relief Grant Fund here.]
Father, cause us to humbly realize that we possess the gift of creativity because we bear the image of our Creator God. Since art in its many forms is an integral part of what we do as humans, we pray what is produced in our community will reflect something of the beauty and truth of You, God.
Father, please pour out Your love and provision to all those involved in Arts and Entertainment. May every artist, actor, writer, musician, dancer, designer, movie producer grow in their awareness of the beauty of Your Holiness. Enable our local museums, sports arenas, movie and live theaters, concert halls, bookstores, public libraries, and publishing houses to reopen and bring our community together again.
During this time when so many are struggling to make sense of what’s happening, we pray Your peace over our artists’ minds and emotions so that frustration and fear will not consume their attention and energy, thus blocking their creativity. Thank You for the technology that enables our creatives to display art and perform their music online.

Oh Lord, our beautiful, majestic Lord, we praise and thank You for Your light and color and sound and beauty. Fill us with fresh awe and appreciation for these wonderful gifts. Would You redeem past sounds and release new sounds and images that result in righteousness that draws men to You, God? We ask for a new, God-honoring, renaissance and revival of the arts. May You, our awesome Creator, be represented well through the Arts and Entertainment Mountain of Huntsville/Madison County.
“Give to the Lord the glory due His Name: bring an offering [of artistic ability] and come before Him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” 1 Chronicles 16:29 NKJV
