Prayers for Our City: September 4, 2018 – Government & Family
“And they shall rebuild the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former desolations and renew the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations.” Isaiah 61:4
We thank You, Lord, for the new neighborhood program that the City of Huntsville is piloting to provide enhanced community policing and city support. We bless the launching of the Neighborhood Resource Center Program which will be housed in a residence staffed by Huntsville police who will help build resources around a neighborhood so that residents may be the “champions of their cause.” We ask You to use this strategy to breath fresh life and rejuvenation into an older neighborhood of our city. Give Captain Jeff Rice, North Huntsville Precinct Commander, wisdom and grace to oversee this program which he says “is not coming in to fix a neighborhood, but to partner with the residents as they take the lead in telling us what they need and want.” Enable this partnership to identify projects and programs that will truly strengthen this community by bringing Your hope and restoration.
Thank You for the work and ministry of Habitat for Humanity of Madison County which is providing the home to be used in this one year pilot in the neighborhood of Sonya Drive, Melrose Drive, Deerfield Drive, Valley Park Drive, Pueblo Drive, Colfax Drive, Teton Drive and Teton Circle.
Pour Your genuine love and concern through Huntsville Police Chief Mark McMurray and Captain Rice as they go door-to-door to visit neighbors and introduce them to the initiative. Give them ears to hear and eyes to see the residents of this area of our city the way You do, Father! We pray the same for the Code Enforcement Staff which will spend time at the Center daily and will be available to meet with residents on a variety of issues related to neighborhood stabilization and revitalization. Oh Lord, may these concerned residents step up and believe their voice will be heard and that this partnership will be a blessing to their community. Restore hope and trust!
Thank You for Devyn Keith, our Councilman for District One where this neighborhood is located. Continue to bless and refine his vision of how this type of community partnership of city officials, law enforcement, and homeowners can be a holistic approach to bring solutions and understanding of how to do things better. Father, we pray that You will invest all involved in this project with Your integrity, peace, and Life making this pilot a very successful program which will then be moved to another neighborhood as an ongoing tool for community empowerment and connection.
We acknowledge that only You, Father, can give beauty for ashes, oil of joy for mourning, and the garment of praise instead of a heavy, failing spirit… restoring and renewing ruined cities and the devastations of many generations. (Isa. 61:3-4) We cry out for You to do this in Huntsville!
