The Harvest Service
The Harvest Ministry has its roots in the fields of Lincoln Village. In years past, many of the neighbors – mostly elderly – would meet every Tuesday to pick fresh vegetables from the field. Lincoln Village Ministry Founder Mark Stearns began joining them each week for their work. The friends would begin their morning with a worship service in the middle of the field. They would hold hands and praise God and sing old spirituals from their past, then listen to a devotion from Mark – many times given from the bed of an old pick-up truck.
Over time, the harsh summer weather and cool winter months made harvesting in the fields more difficult for the neighbors. The friends began to gather at The Village Church to experience the same worship and praise in a more comfortable setting.
Tuesday morning’s Harvest Worship Service provides fellowship and encouragement to the people of Lincoln Village, their children, grandchildren and sometimes great-grandchildren as well as their friends and neighbors while sending them home with a sack of fresh vegetables. Every week, they continue to gather at the Village Church – singing old hymns and worshiping together.
These services are open to the public and we invite you to join us this week – and every week – to experience this truly unique service.

Author~Hi! I’m Alison Trefry, and I am honored to submit a bright spot to OurCityOnAHill. I am a Huntsville native, and am the Development Director at Lincoln Village Ministry, an incredible non-profit located in downtown Huntsville. I grew up at First Presbyterian Church, where I was baptized, confirmed, and married. When my husband and I moved back to Huntsville from Boston, we were introduced to Rivertree Church, and immediately felt a strong connection there. We became members three years ago, and I have the privilege of teaching 2 year olds about Jesus each Sunday which is a highlight of my week. I am married to Brian Trefry, and we have a precious son named Weston who is the light of our lives. I hope to see you at a Harvest Service soon!
