The Test of Testimony
by Rev. Robin Arnold
“So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding…” ~Proverbs 2:2 New King James Version (NKJV)
Sharing our testimony with others is a must for all Christians. When we give our testimony it tells how we came to trust in Christ alone as our Lord and Savior, how God opened our eyes as to our existence as a sinner in need of a Savior, and how God has worked in our lives to bring us to repentance.
Testimony is a form of praise and honor to Christ.
We also use it as a way to encourage others and as Christians. We know that every time we go through trials and sufferings in life, that’s an opportunity to share a testimony of how God has and is working in our lives, making us stronger.
However, sometimes we become so wrapped up in our own testimonies and what God has done in our lives, that we neglect to humble ourselves to receive the testimonies of others. It is the sharing of testimonies that build, increase and strengthens the body of Christ, that bonds and forms us as Christians, that provides overflow and ushers in the new members of our Christian family.
It is important that we listen to the testimonies of others and every testimony is different and unique to the person that is sharing, which makes it all the more important to take the time to not only listen but hear what is being said. One person may speak of a traumatic childhood experience and another may speak of the experience of no longer being able to purchase designer clothing and while we may feel that one testimony is more significant than the other; the fact is that they are equally significant, because both experiences were traumatic enough in their individual lives, to lead them to Christ.
Testimony is not only the things that we say. The way we live our life is a testimony to unbelievers as well.
Share today and build one another up because giving your testimony can change a life and listening to a testimony will have a huge impact on someone’s life.
“So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding…” ~Proverbs 2:2 New King James Version (NKJV)
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, please give me the patience, willingness, understanding and wisdom to recognize, hear and appreciate the testimonies of the people you have placed in my life, whether they be friend, acquaintances or strangers. Help me to slow down and take the time to understand that everything that happens in my life is intentional and orchestrated by You and that each testimony I encounter is a Word from You. In Jesus Name I Pray. ~Amen
