Tweet That: A Dream For Our City
Tweet That: A Dream For Our City
Katie Wilson-Author
I was terrified of social media for so long, for obvious reasons. We see all the damage it can do; however, what the enemy meant to destroy with God will and does use for good. I tentatively entered the world of social media in 2012 on Twitter. I love words and it was a challenge to try and get all that was overflowing from my heart into 140 characters or less. It has definitely been a lesson in choosing each word carefully.
I have a passion for seeing the next generation in love with That Jesus. The next generation uses social media. I heard a pastor once say:
“We will do anything short of sin to reach the next generation for Christ!”
and that one sentence rang true in my heart. I would do anything short of sin to be relevant and reach those coming behind me and that meant entering their TURF-on land or web!
Below is a poem (or spoken word piece) that was conceived at a Catalyst Conference and delivered at FCA at a local high school and from the pulpit of a local church.
Never in a million years did I think I would “rap” poetry with teens or quote Bruno Mars from the pulpit but “anything short of sin” is fair game in Kingdom Building!
So why would I share “Tweet That” in a post about dreams for our city?
Because it expressed my dreams for our churches and schools and those same churches and schools make up our city!
Tweet That
Who do we follow?
What pill do we swallow?
To not feel so hollow.
These people that we track
These computers that we hack
Looking for the thing that
the person who
Will never disappoint me or you!
We were made to follow and be dependent
We were never meant to fade but to be resplendent
Do you know what that word means–I didn’t!
Luminous, shining, bright and brilliant!
Being a follower has a bad connotation;
We start to resemble what, or who- we follow.
It’s kind of like—mutation!
So—-If we follow the “SON”, with a “U” or the “THE ONE”,
Resplendent we become!
Moses literally glowed–HIS GOD he showed!
Now we are brilliant and bright and leaning hard into HIM
The love that HE has–that HE does–that HE is
Flows to us and through us
So we become the
“Servant Friend”
“Greater love has no one than to lay down his life for his friends”
The Bible and Bruno Mars connect in Chorus bars:
I’d catch a grenade for ya
Throw my hand on a blade for ya
I’d jump in front of a train for ya
You know I’d do anything for ya
I would go through all this pain
Take a bullet straight through the brain
Yes, I would die for you
HE WAS CRUCIFIED FOR YOU!
Can we be a friend like the Master
In this world of disaster
Hate-Pride and jealousy
Tend to rule in the KINGOM OF ME!
To lay our life down in the CITY right here-right now means:
We see a need-we meet it!
We see a hurt–we help and heal it!
We tell others the truth in love–not “Hey that is cool” when they act the fool!
IT MIGHT SAVE A LIFE!
When they grieve-we cry!
When they succeed–we fly high!
When they score–They are the ones we celebrate for!
We take the backseat to make others rise above
They will know we are Christians, by our love-by our love
Yes, they will know we are Christians by our love.
Service and sacrifice–don’t ever quite trying!
Lay your life down for others
Thank Christ for dying—BUT REMEMBER—-
HE didn’t stay in the grave!
Do not fear—-
Be brave!
